SIX months before they mark the 13th anniversary of the disappearance of their son, the parents of Gussie Shanahan have issued a direct appeal, through a poem, to people they suspect know where his body is. Nancy and Bob Shanahan, from Ashbrook in Limerick have always believed their son was murdered after he disappeared on February 11, 2011.
He was last seen in the vicinity of Joseph Street.
Nancy, who had a stroke following her son’s disappearance, has now written a poem calling for those that know where Gussie is, to release the vital information that will finally lead his parents to his remains.
“Twelve years of tears, only 20 birthdays to remember. You took the rest.
“I have written these words to the persons who know the date of my son Aengus Gussie Shanahan, born January 23, 1980.
The heartbroken Shanahans have received many anonymous tip offs and phone calls to a mobile number, but none have revealed the whereabouts of their son.
The mobile number was set up – independent of the gardai by the Searching for the Missing Group – to receive anonymous information from the public about missing persons cases.
A reward has also been offered, and the garda siochana at Roxboro Station are also working on the case, separately to the family.
Speaking on the 12th anniversary of her son’s disappearance, a wheelchair-bound Nancy Shanahan pleaded:
“Tell me where my boy is before I die. I just want to bury him. Thank you.”
