THE excellent lunchtime series of entertainment at the Savoy Hotel continues this month with Galway based company Fregoli’s ‘The Sweet Shop’. Meave McGrath of Limerick Local Heroes is co-producer of this summer programme featuring Fregoli, booked for Thursday July 26 and Friday 27, 1pm show. McGrath tells Arts page that ‘The Sweet Shop’ is an original short play by Maria Tivnan “that blurs the boundaries of the real and the imaginary, playing between the past and the present, the internal and the external”.
Fregoli’s performers are Jarlath Tivnan and Kate Murray and Rob McFeely and Maria Tivnan share directing honours. At Savoy Hotel, turn up c.12.45pm to get a good seat, bowl of soup and terrific sandwiches, all for €10. The play unfolds from 1.05pm and should have you back in PAYE land before the boss starts pacing.
“Michael returns to his local town to take over the running of his sick father’s sweet shop. Here he encounters Cass, his closest childhood friend who has also returned to the town because of familial obligations. The sight of each other catapults them both into internal conflict as they relive their past and question their present and future”.
