Chemical theft under investigation

Gardai in Roxboro are investigating the theft of chemical theft from a factory on the Kilmallock Rd, Limerick in the early hours of July 14 last. It is believed that during a burglary of the Enterprise Centre at the Kilmallock Road, two white plastic drums of caustic soda and two yellow plastic drums of nitric acid were taken from the factory.

Gardai have issued a public warning that the chemicals are dangerous and to avoid any contact with the materials of the plastic drums.

Sightings of the drums or information linking their whereabouts should be reported to the gardai at your local station.

The caustic soda can cause skin corrosion ad is corrosive to metals and is extremely dangerous if inhaled, swallowed or comes in contact with the skin.

Nitric acid is corrosive to all parts of the body and possess serious risk to the eyes. Fluid build up in the lungs that can prove fatal is also a serious risk if inhaled.
