AS part of an obligation of solicitors to attend continuing professional education lectures, one local solicitor thought to organise a social media learning event and benefit a valued charity at the same time. Eileen Whelan of Dermot G O Donovan Solicitors called in the assistance of Orla Clancy of Orla Clancy Public Relations and Niamh Quinn of Quinn Communications to present a lecture to female solicitors from Limerick City and County entitled “The Use of Social Media in Promoting Your Business”.
Having ran at the River Bistro last week, Niamh and Orla offered their services complimentary with all solicitors having to attend continuing professional education (CPD) lectures, the event enabled attendees to obtain two hours CPD and make a contribution to a local charity.
Speaking at the event, Pieta House representative Nora Conway highlighted to the attendees the work that they are doing in the Limerick with people who are despairing and the importance of fund-raising so this work can continue and how the funds raised at the event would be utilised.
Eileen noted that The River Bistro had “kindly designed a fantastic menu using local ingredients for the lunchtime event and Dermot G. O Donovan Solicitors also set the ball rolling by sponsoring the event significantly reducing the the overall cost. Ms Whelan added that she was “delighted to be in a position to organise an event that not only raised money for Pieta House but also supported local business.” Both Eileen and her solicitor colleagues say that they “are acutely aware of the pressures and stresses that people are under particularly as a result of the economic downturn.”
It is essential, she said, that the necessary funds are raised for Pieta House to enable those in need of help to receive that help and guidance in a safe environment like Pieta.
