THERE will be a very special guest at this Saturday’s 6pm screening of The Dark Knight Rises, at Showtime in Caherdavin.
The ‘reserved’ seat will be for Limerickman Kevin Kiely, who features as Gotham Thug 1, alongside Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman and Ann Hathaway, in the most anticipated movie of the summer season.
Seated alongside Kevin, from Woodlawn Park, Ballysimon Road, will be dad, Kevin, mum, Ann, sisters Ann-Catherine, Bernadette, Sharon and Fiona, and nephews Elliott and Ruben, nieces Ali and Deirbhile, accompanied by other members of the extended Kiely family, enough, he promises, to fill the theatre.
Said Kevin, from his base in London, this week.
“It is a great honour in itself to figure in the list of credits, up there alongside many of the big names in Hollywood. I have not yet seen the finished product –it is being kept under wraps until it goes on worldwide release this week-but having worked on the set, I have no doubt it will fulfil all expectations”.
Kevin, whose scenes in the movie total about six minutes, shot over six days in London, said he had an excellent working relationship with all cast members and director, the celebrated Christopher Nolan. “I was delighted when Morgan Freeman took me aside after filming one day and told me I had the potential to go on and keep working in more pictures. He just encouraged me to be strong”.
When asked about the pathway to his getting a part in The Dark Knight Rises-in which he has a speaking role- he replied that he was asked to test for the part by the same casting director who had cast him in a recent production of Six Degrees of Separation, at the Old Vic Theatre in London.
“It was a marvellous experience working with such talented people. The positive aspect is that the scenes in which I appear are integral to the narrative in Chris’ story”.
A former student at St Munchin’s College, he learned his early acting trade with The Cecilians, LMS, Impact Theatre Company and CentreStage, before moving to London, where he joined the Guildford School of Acting.
His next gig? “Alongside Brad Pitt in World War Z, which I filmed on location in Glasgow, and is slated for a June 2013 worldwide release”.
Currently employed at the Byron Restaurant in Waterloo, Kevin is hopeful now that he has left his calling card, other film and theatrical roles will now come his way. “At least my name is on the slate, I have come to the attention of several casting directors and maybe The Dark Knight Rises will prove my launching pad to other challenging projects”.
The advice to patrons is to stock up with goodies…the film runs for 164 minutes.
