Limerick FC remain in second spot, just two points behind Longford. However, Waterford have now well and truly entered the title race. Limerick’s Munster rivals are now in third, four points off of second spot.
With the defeat to Waterford still fresh in the fans and players’ minds, Limerick will this weekend be on the road again.
Mervue United will host Limerick at Terryland Park this coming Friday night. (Kick off at 7.45pm) The Claret and Blues have secured only eight points from 16 games, so Limerick will enter the tie as extreme favourites. As many league of Ireland fans will know however, the pitch at Terryland Park can be a real leveler.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game, Limerick FC manager Pat Scully knows that any more slip ups will see Limerick drift away from the battle for top spot.
“We had a very disappointing result away to Waterford last Friday and we need to step up our performance as we travel to play Mervue this Friday evening. We cannot afford anymore slip ups as we move deeper into the second half of the season, focus and professionalism will be all important from now on and we need to bounce back after last week.”
Meanwhile the draw for the semi finals of the EA Sports Cup have been made. Limerick will travel to play Shamrock Rovers on Monday the 6th of August.
Limerick, have already beaten Cork City and Bray Wanderers on their way into the Semi-finals of the League Cup and now the Super Blues return to the home of the Champions in Tallaght. Limerick FC played Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup on May 25 last and were unlucky to lose 1-0 with a depleted side, the Super Blues will hope to perform even better now as the squad returns to full strength.
