THOUSANDS of Limerick householders will receive stern reminders in the next 10 days that they have not yet paid the Household Charge and that they face prosecution for holding out.
City Hall has confirmed that it has raked data bases from the ESB, Bord Gais and their own records of landlords who have already registered as owners of a Non Principle Private Residence, to obtain details of people who have not paid.
Environment Minister Phil Hogan has instructed local authorities to write to non-conforming households to remind them that legally the Household Charge has to be paid.
A spokesperson for City Hall has confirmed to the Limerick Post that a new data base of those who have paid and those who have not done so is currently under construction.
“The letters will be going out in the next 10 days and they will be in the hundreds,” the spokeswoman told the Limerick Post.
Householders who now decide to pay will have to pay the increased fee of €114 – the original €100 charge, plus €10 in fines and €4 in interest.
Meanwhile, the Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes has said it will shortly distribute its official response to every household in the city.
By the end of April, almost six in every 10 households had not paid the charge.
