JOHN ALLEN has steered Limerick through to the final round of qualifiers in this season’s All Ireland. The Limerick men now wait on this weekends draw to see who they face next having hammered both Antrim and Laois on the last two rounds. Although Limerick’s win were expected, the margain of the wins were pleasing to Limerick manager Allen.
“I suppose the games were there to be won and we won them comprehensively and if we had not won them comprehensively, you know, we would have been written off. I mean, Limerick only beat Antrim by a small margin last year so all progress is good progress”
Limerick’s wins were ruthless in their execution. The points and goals tally were something that Kilkenny and Tipperary would be renowned for.
“We scored eight goals today, we scored six the last day, that’s good going like. If you want to be spoken about in the same breath as the Kilkennys and the Tipps, you need to be clinical about it, you know, and we were aiming to be clinical about this today and I wouldn’t have been overly impressed with how we played maybe for a slot in maybe the last fifteen minutes of the first half. At the same time, we came out in the second half and totally over ran them so you know it was a very good performance and I’m very pleased with the win”
Limerick know that they will face one of the winners from this weekends qualifier clashes on the 14th of July. With Conor Allis, Kevin Downes and Paul Browne all expected to play some part in that fixture, haivng missed last weekend, Limerick are in a strong position as they enter the last stage before the quarter finals.
“Competition for places is key. Absolutely, sure that’s what you want. That’s absolutely where you want to be, where you have a number of players pushing for positions. It’s a win-win for us really, and it also gets the best out of the players. We’re in a good position”
Indeed Limerick are. Few will now want to face the Green, Goal Scoring machine that is the Limerick Senior Hurlers.
