Barrett returns to Limerick FC

-

IT has been a great week for Limerick FC. The Super Blues almost went top last Friday night having defeated Finn Harps at Jackman Park. Were it not for a Lazarus style recovery from table toppers Longford Town Limerick would have been two points clear.

The win on the pitch has been followed this week by good news off of it. Limerick FC’s 75 year celebratory dinner was a roaring success at the Radisson Blu Hotel last Saturday night. (See page 74 for pictures)
The good vibes continued into this week as Limerick announced the appointment of Tommy Barrett as Head of Youth Development. Tommy returns to his home town club and brings with him vast playing experience at League of Ireland level along with an array of coaching knowledge. Tommy was a natural leader for Limerick FC on the field of play and his instinctive and professional attitude for all things football make him ideally equipped to take on this role.
Speaking about his new challenge, Tommy points to the work that needs to be done, “I’ll be helping Declan Farmer with the Under 19’s, we’ve got another very good group of young lads this year and we’ll be looking to win the league. Declan has been doing great work with them and we’re looking forward to really get going. I’ll be looking at the Academy and all age groups. We’re looking to introduce a style of playing at all levels that’s consistent with the clubs overall football philosophy. I’m not looking to really change too much, it’ll be more like taking each age group and coming up with the exact age appropriate coaching.
To matters on the field, Limerick travel to Waterford this Friday night on the crest of a remarkable run of results. The Pat Scully lead side are on a run of six games unbeaten in the league. Speaking this week, Scully admitted that Waterford will be a tricky away tie.
“We had another good win against Finn Harps last Friday night. This week we travel to Waterford and we need to be on top of our game against a team that has got two results off us already this season, we need to turn that form around and put in a performance that will get us the right result on Friday night.”
Kick off in Waterford on Friday night is at 7.45pm.
