LIMERICK GAA was rocked this week by the news that John Galvin will miss the remainder of the championship season. The Croom midfielder who has been struggling with a cruciate knee ligament injury, will go under the knife this coming Friday.
The All Star nominated midfielder injured his knee last season in a friendly against Down, subsequently missing out on all of last summer, as Limerick reached the quarter finals of the All Ireland.
Galvin has not featured for Limerick in the championship this season either, having suffered a set back to the knee injury in a league game against Fermanagh.
Speaking exclusively to PostSport, Galvin says that this call to opt for the operation was a tough, but necessary one.
“My knee has not been right really for a long time. The set back against Fermanagh was really a new tear. I have to look at this long term and make sure when I do come back it will be right. I am due to be operated on this Friday and should all go well, I will be back in February of next year. In time to play again for Limerick in the league”
This will be Galvin’s second operation on the knee. The Limerick man has dispelled any talk of retirement however, adding that he cannot wait to get back out on the field.
“I will not be retiring. I am just going to get fixed up now and get ready for next season. I have to be honest to myself and my team mates. It has to be right before I come back and I will be back”.
