The Tony Miceli Quartet

THE American vibrafone master Tony Miceli makes his annual visit to Limerick for performance and instruction in mid-July. His usual haunt is Dolan’s Upstairs venue and on Wednesday July 18, Limerick Jazz Society is host to a gig titled ‘Tony Miceli Quartet: a Tribute to The Modern Jazz Quartet’.

The Philadelphian, who plays vibes, drums, and guitar, will be joined by three terrific musicians, Phil Ware on piano, Dan Bodwell on bass and John Daly on drums. Expect a night of homage to the groundbreaking original Modern Jazz Quartet, best known today for its huge hit Django, which “typified their neo-classical approach to polyphony”.
Credited with re-inventing use of and interest in the vibraphone, Miceli teaches in several US colleges and has a collective of 3000 vibe players logging on to website www.vibesworkshop.com. His Limerick workshop will take place at Peter Dee Academy of Music, O’Connell Avenue between Monday July 23 and July 28.
