Sinead Clohessy, store director at Specsavers in Limerick said, “We see so many people in the store who look absolutely amazing in their glasses. The Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition gives us the opportunity to shout about the modelling talent right on our doorstep. It allows us to celebrate those who wear their specs with pride and plenty of style and who are great role models for younger specs wearers to aspire to.”
Every year, Specsavers scours Ireland to find the girls and boys next door who look amazing in their specs. The competition is open to men and women aged 16 and over, who are current specs wearers or wear glasses for fashion purposes. Specsavers and top model agency Assets Models will be specs-spotting this summer up and down the country.
Irish SWOTY 2011 winner
Of course every year there is an Irish winner too. This year the Irish finalists will be chosen by Storm Model Agency in London from all the Irish entries submitted and they will choose the finalists.
Grace Healy from Westport, Co. Mayo, who was crowned the 2011 Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year, said of her win, “I was so thrilled to be the Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year in 2011. Since winning I have secured model representation with Assets Model Agency in Dublin and MOT models in London, which is a dream come true!
“I see my glasses as a key part of my look and wear them with pride. I’m really looking forward to seeing who takes the crown this year.’
Grace Healy beat off stiff competition from nearly 5,000 hopefuls to win one of 10 places in the London final, representing Ireland. Grace came second in the overall final and was spotted by MOT Models, who offered her a top modelling contract.
The Irish winner will receive one year’s representation with Assets Model Agency, a make-up master class with top make-up artist Zoe Clarke, a fashion portfolio shoot with Ireland’s top photographer Lili Forberg, a €250 voucher for House of Fraser, a €215 Specsavers eyecare voucher and the prestigious Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2012 trophy. The winner will also go forward to represent Ireland at the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Grand Final, in London, in autumn.
