MID West Simon Community are gearing up to offer a “full blown cultural encounter” on the streets of Limerick this weekend according to Susan Ward representing Mid West Simon. The basic idea is to bring classical music to the streets and landmarks of Limerick City and they are hoping for a huge turnout of volunteers and lots of support from the public. Already signed up are members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Soprano Eve Stafford, approximately 30 children from the ICO’s Sing out for Strings ensemble, The Blue Monk Quartet and others.
The musicians will busk throughout the Friday June 15 and Saturday 16 with all funds collected going directly to Mid West Simon to support their work with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
“With over 100 hours of music needed to fill the streets and make a real impact we are calling to all classical musicians, of all ages and abilities, to come forward and give us an hour of their time and talent”, said Fundraising Coordinator Susan Ward, “With such positive feedback from the traders in Limerick City, from the music shops and colleges and from the public in general I am just hoping that the actual musicians will understand they have the most important role in making this unique event a success”.
