AS PART of a new round of sponsorship programmes running at LIT, AIB have announced that it is to sponsor the ‘Assistive Technology Centre’ at LIT, which is a new initiative developed with funding provided by AIB. The Assistive Technology Centre features leading technology and a bespoke setting which will augment teaching, research and learning for students with physical disabilities. Pádraic Hayes, a Higher Diploma in Business Management student at LIT who has a physical disability, notes that priority access is an important feature of the facility:
“There are so many students who need to use computers on campus, and when you have a disability you cannot get to the computer as quickly as an able-bodied person when one becomes free.
Mark Fitzharris, Regional Director, AIB, said: “We are always looking for meaningful ways to support customers in our local community and this extends to our local college where vital groundwork is laid for the future of our young people. Limerick Institute of Technology have been superb to work with and we are delighted to be a sponsor across this range of initiatives. We are particularly pleased that we have a branch located on campus to offer advice and service the banking needs of our customers.”
Dr Maria Hinfelaar, President of LIT said, “LIT is delighted to enter into this expanded agreement with AIB as it represents a positive commitment from both organisations to work together to develop new and mutually beneficial initiatives, one example being the AIB Assistive Technology Lab. LIT has a significant cohort of students with special needs and this new facility is one of several measures we have taken to accommodate them so they can fulfil their potential.”
