A SCAM artist has been calling to homes in county Limerick claiming to be from the local authority and demanding people pay over their household charge to him. A lady in her 80’s, from Pallaskenry, contacted the Limerick Post to enquire whether collecting the tax door-to-door is now policy. She said that a man called to her door last week claiming to be collecting the money and the late payment fee. “He had identification and everything. I didn’t’ let him in but I didn’t pay him either – I told him I was refusing to pay the charge,” the woman said.
Limerick County Council confirmed when contacted by the Limerick Post, that there is no member of staff or any agent being sent door-to-door to collect the charge.
“We have no-one to to do that. If anyone asks for money for the charge on the doorstep, they do not represent Limerick County Council” .
The council spokesperson said that under current circumstances, there is no plan to send staff door-to-door to collect the tax.
The spokesperson was puzzled as to how the caller had identification but speculated that it is possible he had stolen ID which belonged to a legitimate council employee.
