Neither side were willing to commit too many men forward as it looked like both sides were hoping not to lose the game.
However Joe Gamble had other ideas and scored a sweet finish from eight yards on the hour mark to keep Limerick in second spot and one point off undefeated leaders Longford Town.
This weekend is now the biggest in the Super Blues season thus far. On Friday Limerick face Longford at Jackman Park, before playing premier league side Cork City in the EA Sports cup.
Already Limerick and Longford have been the two outstanding sides in the division, so this game could be a good indication of where the title may be heading at the end of the season. Longford had won their first four games of the season, however, they were held to a draw by a poor Salthll Devon side last week.
Karl Bermingham is the danger man up front while the ammunition will be supplied by former Newcastle Utd legend Keith Gillespie.
However, Pat Scully’s men have now won three on the trot and will go in as firm favourites.
Speaking this week, Pat Scully said, “Longford have brought in some very experienced players like Alan Kirby and Karl Bermingham. They have started the season very well and must be really happy so far, so we know it’s going to be a really tough game and it’s a game we will have to play with a quick tempo. We are always at our best when we play with a strong intensity.”
On Monday night Limerick will face Cork in a tough encounter. However, with the game coming three days after the Longford, squad rotation will be crucial. However Limerick will fancy their chances on home turf.
Prediction: Limerick for a double sweep.
