Kennedy, welcome to Limerick in all seasons

VIOLIN soloist supremo, Nigel Kennedy, has sold out UCH in concerts past there. He returns to our concert hall on Thursday May 10, 8pm as part of two-station tour accompanied by The City of Cork Symphony Orchestra. A protégé of Yehudi Menuhin, Kennedy grew up to become one the world’s best-selling violinists. His talent has brought “a funky and fresh perspective” to contemporary and classical music.   The Cork concert in City Hall on Friday May 11 is already sold out and why not? His star is on the rise internationally once more after his successful tour of China.

The Munster concerts are supported by the 75-strong City of Cork Symphony Orchestra’s members are from all walks and are under the patronage of the Lord Mayor. Its base is  City Hall.
Brian Murphy, leader of the orchestra, expresses his delight that the celebrity musician accepted his invitation to return to play with the orchestra.
“Nigel is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated musical artistes of the past twenty years and we’ve put together an excellent program.  On his last visit to Cork in 2007, he packed City Hall, 1,200 capacity, enthralling audiences with his unconventional and energising performance in what was dubbed ‘the most important cultural event of the year’ in the city.
“Now, Limerick audiences will also have the opportunity to enjoy his virtuoso technique, unique talent and mass appeal.  He brings fresh perspectives to both the classical and contemporary repertoire and he is a joy to work with.  Under the baton of guest conductor Keith Pascoe, the concerts are sure to be memorable”.
Kennedy has been presented with many awards including Outstanding Contribution to British Music and Male Artist of the Year at the UK Brit Awards; France’s Gold Award on the major network TV programme Vivement Dimanche and in Switzerland, the Gold Rose of Montreux.
