LIMERICK FC secured a facile 3-0 win over a feeble Salthill Devon Galway side last Friday night at Jackman Park.
The Super Blues put in their best performance of the season as they dominated from start to finish. Limerick attacked right from the off and their inferior opponents couldn’t cope with the quality that the Super Blues possessed.
The game could have turned into a rout had Limerick not squandered several opportunities. Goals from Rory Gaffney, Dominic Foley and a spot kick for the second week running from Shane Tracy was enough to see off their western counterparts and catapult the side up to second place, three points off undefeated Longford Town.
Pat Scully’s men will now face a stiff test against a promising Athlone Town side away from home on Friday evening.
Athlone are managed by former Limerick boss Mike Kerley. Both sides will know each other very well, with over half the Athlone side being former Super Blues players at some stage in their careers.
Athlone are level on points with Limerick and only trail the Super Blues on goals scored.
Athlone are well known for keeping it very tight and most of their games are won only by the odd goal. The ‘Town’ are also undefeated at home so it will be a tough contest for the Blues.
