LIMERICK FC got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over a brave Mervue United side last Friday. The Super Blues controlled the game for large parts, but still needed a late penalty to confirm victory.
Limerick took the game to their counterparts right from the off and took the lead after a quarter of an hour through Joe Gamble. The hard working midfielder hit a sublime volley past the helpless Mervue United keeper.
Limerick squandered several chances as they struggled to put their opponents away. Mervue as a result grew in confidence and midway through the second half they drew level.
However, Limerick were determined to bag all three points and won a penalty of their own with fifteen minutes remaining after Paudie Quinn was bundled over in the area.
Shane Tracy assured Limerick the win as he sent the keeper the wrong way to rattle the net and set Limerick up for two wins from their opening three games.
Limerick will now face struggling Salthill Devon, (or SD Galway) on Friday night in Jackman Park as they look to keep their title ambitions on track.
Salthill have yet to win this season so the omens are good for Pat Scully’s troops.
Scully has no injuries to mention at the time of going to pres, so there will be no excuses for not picking up all three points in front of their passionate home crowd.
Verdict: Limerick to win easy
