White Russians, Artane Boys, and Local Pipes set for NCW Parade

Huge crowds are expected in Newcastle West this Sunday for the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

THIS year the committee has again organised a first-class line-up, with the parade due to start at 3.30pm on Sunday the March 18. Templeglantine Comhaltas will entertain the crowd before the parade starts from the stage, and the local Newcastle West & District Pipe Band will maintain their long-held tradition of thrilling the crowds which are expected to top those that attended last year.
This year they will be joined by the Artane Band, famous for their Croke Park appearances on All Ireland Sundays. The Artane Band will also play at the 12.30pm mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newcastle West.

The Co. Limerick capital has a very special treat lined up, with the White Russian Central Band from Belarus marching in the parade. The White Russian Central Band, formerly known as the Red Army Band, are visiting Ireland as part of the St Patrick’s Day festivities and Newcastle West is one of only three locations where they will play. This band steeped in the military tradition is one of the most famous in the world.
The parade itself will include sporting, voluntary and civic organisations and the organisers are still encouraging businesses and groups from all across West Limerick to enter the event. A prize for the best float and best window will be given and announced at the parade.
Local musicians will play after the parade itself to ensure that the West Limerick town can soak up the atmosphere of our Patron Saint.
The Committee want to thanks all those patrons that have generously sponsored the event so far. The patrons of the parade will be thanked at the event itself on Sunday as an acknowledgement of their generosity, a list of patrons will be displayed and also published later. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the parade can do so to Whelan’s Bar, Church Street, to Laurie’s Hair Salon, Bridge Street or to the Curvy Closet, St Mary’s Road.
