Russian Spectacular in concert
THE Russians are invading Limerick in March using musical instruments as their weapons of peace. Dancers, singers and a world renowned military band will perform in a Russian Spectacular concert at UCH on Sunday March 18 at 8pm. Fresh from competing in the International Marching Band Parade in the city 12noon on Sunday, the White Russian Central Band from Belarus will be joined at the concert hall by guest vocalists and other soloists from the world famous Bolshoi and dancers from the Belarussian National Folk Dance Academy.
These will be in national dress for this Russian Spectacular. Culminating in a grand finale that features ‘The Last Night of the Russian Proms’, the event has something for everyone, both young and old.
As one of the finest military orchestras in the world, the White Russian Central Band combines traditional Russian folk music with a wide range of modern big band favourites and international music.
Tickets for 8pm, Sunday 18 are available from the Box Office.
Louise Donlon
Mary Immaculate College’s new Lime Tree Theatre has appointed Louise Donlon as its first manager. A Masters in Public Administration, Ms Donlon was general manager of Druid Theatre Company when it one four Tony awards for its ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ and has since been director of Dunmaise Arts Centre.
She’s married to Kildimo man Jim O’Brien and has three children.
Limerick Lady Associates
A NEW arty initiative titled Limerick Lady Associates allows a ‘window of opportunity’ to professionally trained, local female artists and designers to showcase works in public.
“We have acquired use of a window space at Café Solo in Rutland Street opposite the Hunt Museum through the generosity of local businessman, Mr. Dan Broderick,” writes LLA’s Ciara Nash.
