‘Girlfriend was wrecking his head’

AN ESTONIAN national stopped by gardai after he was observed driving erratically on the Ennis Road last year, said at Limerick District Court that his “girlfriend was wrecking his head,” and that was the reason for his drink driving. Vello Prin, with an address on Headford Road, Galway, was before Judge Ni Chonduin, represented by Sarah Ryan solicitor. Garda evidence was given that the man was stopped on the Ennis Road in December last year after they noticed him driving in an erratic manner and without any headlights on.

With no previous convictions, he was arrested and provided a breath sample that read 102/100mg.
Judge Ni Chonduin heard from Ms Ryan through the aid of an interpreter, that her client was having difficulties in his relationship at the time and “that the simplest way to put it was that his girlfriend was wrecking his head”.
She added that he was a part- time worker and on the evening in question, he had a lot of drink on board.
Judge Ni Chonduin convicted and fined the accused €175, and ordered that it be paid within two months. Prin was also banned from driving for three years, and the judge warned that if caught drink driving again, “jail would be guaranteed”.
