H-Block hunger strike legacy

‘1981’ was a play written by Tony Devlin of Brassneck Theatre Company, Belfast to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the hunger strike in the Maze Prison. Bobby Sands led the nine Republicans who forfeited life in the morbid war of starvation against not being granted the status of political prisoners by the British government.
‘1981’ will be staged at LIT Millennium Theatre, one night only on Monday March 12, 8pm.
“This is a two act play which presents  a deep and moving insight into the personality and character of each of the 10 hunger strikers who died in their protest for political status while being imprisoned,” says tour promoter, Richard Ryan.
‘1981’ is a one-man-show with actor/writer Tony Devlin accompanied by musician Barry Kerr and “superb visual playbacks of a period when Ulster and the hunger strike was front page news throughout the world”.
