Stamping out 37 years of service to community

AFTER almost four decades of valued service to nearby residents and the local business community, The Clontarf Place Post Office is to close following the decision taken by An Post to relocate the service elsewhere in the city. Deirdre Moore, who moved the business to the upper Oโ€™Connell Avenue in recent years, said that โ€œsadly after 37-years of business, An Post has decided to transfer the contract to another providerโ€.

She added that; โ€œI think the service is to be provided by another contractor at a Henry Street location, but we were not given information.
Prominent city tailor, Joe Clancy, on hearing of the closure, responded that it was โ€œtypical of things in this country.
โ€œThat post office, in both Oโ€™Connell Avenue and when in Clontarf Place, served the community and the businesses around this area for a great number of years. There are a lot of elderly people in this part of the city and they need these facilities. Relocating just doesnโ€™t seem necessaryโ€.
The post office is to close later this month with the loss of four jobs, but Ms Moore was upbeat stating in an open letter; โ€œit has always been a pleasure dealing with the people and I will miss seeing them on both a personal and professional levelโ€. She also thanked the โ€œloyal customโ€ of the community in her 37 years of service.
