WORKING hard, maintaining dignity and music style and the desire to continue creating and keeping House music alive are the things that drive Chicago’s DJ Sneak to produce and perform. Now with more than 20 years of DJing experience, DJ Sneak has been described by DMCWorld Magazine as “one of the world’s most talented turntable hero’s having genius tune selection, total deck wizardry and a pure love of house music”. Shane Healy from Strutt Promotions told Limerick Post that DJ Sneak has been on their wish list for many years and finally now he has agreed to spin a 3 hour DJ set for Strutt at Dolans Warehouse for his Fabric 62 CD Launch tour this Friday February 24.
Carlos Sosa (AKA DJ Sneak) moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico in the early eighties and found inspiration in underground house music, warehouse parties and “old school” mix tapes from the early pioneers like Farley Jackmaster Funk. DJ Sneak earned his nickname as a graffiti artist and made contacts in the music business while working at Chicago’s Gramophone Records store where he helped Radio DJs get their music. After a stint working as a regular mobile DJ Sneak focused on music production and started his independent label, Defiant Records. In 1994, while still working at Gramophone Records, Sneak met Cajmere (Green Velvet) owner of Cajual and Relief Records. Cajmere released three of Sneak’s tracks which helped to bring Sneak international recognition.
Recognized as the disco filter innovator, his productions and musical style has maintained his status as one of the Top 100 DJs in the world. Spinning anything from furious banging Chicago tracks and Latin tribal beats, to disco filtered reworks of retro classics and melodic rhythms. The disco filtered house grooves that have became Sneak’s signature sound have inspired others like Basement Jaxx, Armand Van Helden and Daft Punk. Lyrics by DJ Sneak are featured in Daft Punk’s ‘Digital Love’, from 2001’s Discovery album.
The Fabric label have just released a mix by DJ Sneak, Fabric 62, featuring tracks by Markus Homm & Philipp Gonzales, Mendo, Mike Jules and Cause & Affect, among others. Speaking about this mix, Sneak commented, ”I am very proud, excited and confident this mix will entertain for many years to come… “
DJ Sneak is also due to bring out an album of his own productions in 2012, he told DMCWorld magazine, “I’ve been making beats non stop so when I decide to choose tracks I’ll have more than I can release which means only the best will be part of the playlist. Jackin’ deep House with all the Sneak seasoning.”
Strutt who are promoting the night informed Limerick Post that DJ Sneak is a, “guaranteed crowd pleaser”. Sneak will be on the decks for a 3 hour set at Dolan’s Warehouse aided and abetted by Soydan (Yakuza Recordings), Frawl(Never Learnt, Strutt) and Bad Boy Blast (Strutt) at Strutt on Friday February 24. Doors open from 9pm for everyone to get into the house vibe nice and early.
