Ulster Bank League Weekend Previews 11/2/12

-

ROSS O’Donoghue is back again this week to all the action in the Ulster Bank League

Division 1A
Shannon v Young Munster
Shannon ended a four match losing streak with their teak tough performance against Lansdowne last Saturday. Coach Stephen Keogh showed his on field contributions remain vital while Tadgh Bennett’s assured boot was also key.
At the same time, Young Munster were completing a remarkable double over Cork Constitution. For both sides it’s a six day turn around for Friday Night Lights. If Shannon lose, they are officially in a relegation battle. Young Munster need a victory to keep title hopes alive. As if there wasn’t enough riding on this one.
Verdict: Shannon are due a win in this fixture.

Garryowen v Lansdowne
Garryowen will feel their league position doesn’t tell the whole story. The sky blues are sixth, but have a game in hand and made leaders St. Mary’s sweat for their win in Round 11. Lansdowne’s campaign is beginning to falter, but Garryowen’s home record will give the Dubliner’s something to play for. Outhalf Declan Cusack has made a welcome return to kicking duty for the home side.
Verdict: The best defense to repel the best offense – Garryowen win
Division 1B
Bruff v UCD
Bruff emptied the tank against Ballymena last week and were unlucky to leave Ulster with nothing. The county men are five points clear of bottom side UCC but do occupy a relegation play off spot at present. That won’t change this Saturday but a win over UCD would put safety in sight. The packs are well matched and if Bruff can work on their penetration, the win is there for the taking. UCD are bristling from a late late defeat to Buccaneers.
Verdict: Bruff to do enough

Buccaneers v UL Bohemian
Three wins from four have brought a decent 2012 for UL Bohs to date. Their scrum has given them a vital edge and their work rate is a credit to all concerned. They managed to win without the distribution of Ireland U-20 star JJ Hanrahan last week, (Ed Torrie filled in ably) but Buccaneers at home are formidable opponents – the Galway men have plenty of muscle up front themselves.
Verdict: Buccaneers to justify the favourites’ tag

Best of luck to all teams. For more on these games check out www.limerickpost.ie on Monday morning.
