John Riordan’s goal with less than ten minutes to go, gave Limerick the much need boost to seal the win.
Limerick, at the time of the goal, were struggling to put away the Connacht side. Eoghan O’Connor, Ian Ryan and capatain Ger Collins had all gone close to hitting the net only to see their shots go agonisingly over, or even off the post in Ryan’s case.
The performance for Limerick was a vast improvement on their loss to UCC in the Mc Grath Cup. This win sees Limerick secure a vital away win. A commodity well worth having coming into the later stages as Division four has a history of being extremely tight.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Limerick face an emerging force in football in the shape of London. The exiles defeated Fermanagh in last years championship qualifiers. London will arrive into Limerick cold however. Their game last weekend against Fermanagh was called off due to a snow covered pitch.
Maurice Horan’s Limerick team will be favourites for this encounter. Two wins from two would be an ideal start to a campaign which must end in promotion.
