Chamber choir at cathedral
CURRENTLY on a national tour, the UL based Irish Youth Choir’s chamber choir will give a concert in St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday 18, 8pm. 
The programme will include works from Pawel Lukaszewski, James MacMillan, Eric Whitacre, Greg Scanlon and Moses Hogan, all young composers who have established reputations in sacred and choral music.   

The artistic director Greg Beardsell will be available to local schools for a choral workshop programme which will run alongside the tour.

Poetry tributes to
Michael Hartnett
LIMERICK Writers’ Centre, in association with Limerick County Council, is publishing a book dedicated to the late poet Michael Hartnett this year. The book will contain a number of Hartnett’s poems plus a selection of poems written in tribute to the late poet.
“We are now seeking submissions of original poetry that has been dedicated to Michael Hartnett,” indicates LWC’s Dominic Taylor. “If you have written such a poem in Irish or English and would be interested in having it considered for inclusion, email it to [email protected] with Hartnett in the subject box, together with your biographical details”.
Deadline for submissions March 31.

* DORAS Luimní intends to take place in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday March 17 and  is looking for volunteers to participate. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Karen McHugh on k.mchugh@dorasluimni or call to the Mt St Vincent organisation.
* MR James Scanlon, an engineer working in Analog Devices in Raheen, is appointed chairperson to Limerick Musical Society for 2012. ‘Big’ is the next show and will open for three nights in UCH on March 8.

International short  
story competition
THE second William Trevor / Elizabeth Bowen International Short Story Competition is launched by Mitchelstown Literary Society. Two preliminary adjudicators are well-known short story writers and book reviewers, we are told, and the principal adjudicator is Hennessy Literary Award winner Ita Daly.
Approximately 25 stories will be passed on for final adjudication. Details of entry can be had by emailing [email protected] and see www.mitchelstownlit.com There is entry fee of €20 per entry; closing date for receipt of entries is Friday Mach 30.
Winner and runners up will be notified personally as well as results being posted to the competition website as they become available.
