THE Bailey Bar re-opened its doors in December and at the helm is Johnny Hammond. Johnny is, of course, familiar to many as a DJ in Limerick’s premier clubs, behind the decks mixing house records but this new venture finds him behind the bar, for the first time, mixing the drinks. Limerick Post learned that the opportunity for Johnny and his business partner Donna McGarry to run the bar arrived late last year and as Donna had years of experience in running nightclubs, bars and restaurants in Dublin, they thought, “why not have a crack at it.”
Music is a priority for The Bailey and Johnny has taken the Thursday night DJ slot, live bands are lined up for Saturdays and the music policy of the bar is to play, funk and soul and hip hop, Johnny adds, “we are not playing a lot of chart music, we are trying to stay away from that, everywhere is doing that.”
Also on the horizon for the bar is a weekly Sunday Session over the two levels in the bar in conjunction with Daragh Flynn of Beats Working crew mixing funky beats with live instrumentation.
When asked, What do punters want most these days? Johnny replied, “Value for money, good live music and change in their pockets when they are getting a round of drinks”. With that in mind drink prices are competitive at The Bailey. The bar is also catering food and lunches daily and showing all the big ticket sports events.
DJ Johnny Hammond is on the decks at The Bailey on Patrick St this Thursday. Check out Limerick Post Listings for upcoming gigs by DJ Flip itf world scratch champion and DJ Angello UK scratch champion.
