DIRECTOR Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) comes up trumps yet again in the action/revenge Haywire, partly set in Dublin, and which is a showcase for mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano to show her skills. In the mix, too, is Kerry’s Michael Fassbender, now on Hollywood’s A list, and also starring in the controversial Shame, as well as Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas and Channing Tatum Carano plays Mallory Kane, a sort of super agent working for a shady private company that does contract work with assorted government agencies.
She’s about ready to quit, but her boss Ewan McGregor convinces her to do one more job in Dublin with Michael Fassbender, a member of MI-6 that McGregor is eager to recruit.
The job goes wrong and people she’s supposed to be able to trust are trying to kill her. Not content to run and hide, Mallory is determined to find out who is responsible for this mess and take them down. Watch as Fassbender gets beaten to a pulp in The Shelbourne Hotel.
Also, keep an eye on Carano, one for the future. 93 minutes.
