WORK on the proposed seven-screen cinema at Caherdavin, scheduled to open before Christmas, has been delayed. Earlier this year, the Limerick Post reported that Showtime Cinemas planned to be up-and-running in time for the festive season. However, it is understood that the site, close to Dunnes on the Ennis Road, and which had been owned by Limerick developers, has since gone into receivership and is now with Nama.
A spokesperson for the planning office at City Hall said this week that they were extremely confident that the project would go ahead in the near future.
“The cinema operator is in talks with Nama…full planning permission for the project has been granted”.
As reported elsewhere in this paper, there are plans to open three screens at the former Royal Cinema in Upper Cecil Street, mainly dedicated to independent and art house releases.
