Limerick FC go into their final game against Waterford United knowing that a win is a must and results elsewhere need to go their way.
Shelbourne’s win over Finn Harps on Tuesday night has put the Dublin side top once more after a mid season slide.
Shelbourne face Cork City this weekend in a do or die, winner takes all, title decider. Even if Cork City lose, they are guaranteed a playoff spot based on their superior goal difference to Limerick. Cork are 46+, while Limerick, who can potentially finish level with Cork on points are only 24+.
The season for Limerick will be decide by their own performance against Waterford and the result in Athlone, where second placed Monaghan travel.
Limerick defeated Monaghan last weekend thanks to a Quinn goal after two minutes.
The Roddy Collins coached side now know that nothing but a win will do for them. Limerick’s manager Pat Scully is looking forward to Saturday.
“This season anything that could go against us, has. We have just had no luck at all, between Monaghan getting awarded two extra points, being put into the FAI cup semi final then taken out again, crippled by injuries all season. I think we’ve had 5 to 12 players missing since the first game and that’s why the players deserve so much credit. They’ve been magnificent all season and we need to be magnificent again on Saturday night. Waterford are a decent team and it will be a tough physical game. We have to keep playing at our level, the players are very focused at the moment and will be 100% ready on Saturday and who knows we might even get that bit of luck when we need it most.” Kick off at Jackman Park for the final game is Saturday at 19.45
