Monaghan, managed by Roddy Collins, (pictured) sit atop the First Division table as it stands. However Shelbourne have a game in hand.
Shelbourne have been sliding down the table to meet Limerick in recent weeks, but they seem to have managed to get their season back on track this week, with a win in FAI Cup semi final.
Limerick fans will hope Shelbourne’s eyes will be focused on the cup final ahead, but Limerick will know that they have to win their last two games to give themselves every chance of third spot and the playoff place. Monaghan are on a roll and will be a stern test for Pat Scull’y side.
The Limerick though, seems ready for this weekend’s battle.
“The last time we played Monaghan, Roddy questioned the commitment of my players. It was such a unprofessional comment and really lacks any class, but that’s why a lot of people in football have no respect for Roddy. It’s because he says such stupid things like that, but he’s a good manager and Monaghan have had a strong team for 3 or 4 years. They deserved to beat us in the last game, but we had just signed some new players and we were not settled as a team. We know that we have a very strong team with top players, who are working so hard and applying themselves 100%. We know it’s going to be a tough game, but were playing at a very good level and our players will be fully committed and motivated from the first second to the last.”
To make matters worse. The decision of the Independent Arbitrator was issued this week in relation to Limerick FC’s hearing. The hearing was requested by the club after Finn Harps forfeited their September 3 match against Monaghan Utd for fielding an ineligible player. The Independent Arbitrator dismissed Limerick FC’s claim.
