AMERICA features again in the starry season booked by Limerick Jazz at Upstairs in Dolan’s. Pencil in Wednesday October 19 for the next exhibit, award-winning saxophonist and composer Alex Mathias. He arrives in the blaze of saxophone glory created by preceding gigs David Liebman and the John Coltrane smash night by Limerick Jazz Quartet. On Wedensday 19 next, Alex Mathias joins forces with critically acclaimed US guitarist Jake Hertzog to present a blend of highly energetic original music, drawing on jazz, funk/ fusion and other influences.
Having met at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, from which they graduated in 2006, Mathias and Hertzog have gone on to form individually successful careers from a young base in their homelands and beyond. Damian Evans on bass and Dominic Mullan on drums complete the line up for a busy stage. €10/ €13 in, 9pm.
