A BALLET production of one of Tchaikovsky’s most lovely works, orchestrated by dancers from the crown of Russian ballet, is coming to Limerick. In Ireland for only four performances, ‘The Nutcracker’ is brought to life on stage by dancers from The Moscow Ballet in UCH this Friday October 14. “The two lead dancers in the troupe are Alexander Smoliyaninov, who has been dancing with the Bolshoi Ballet since 2006 and Liudmila Titova, who graduated from Moscow Ballet Academy of The Bolshoi Theatre in 2005,” reports David Collopy, director at the concert hall.
“With such prestigious training behind them it is little wonder this show has already wowed audiences across the globe in Canada, the US, Africa and many countries across Europe”.
With 32 dancers and 80 handmade costumes, this visually stunning performance will be the first staging of the Nutcracker in Ireland in five years.
Choreographer Marius Petipa commissioned Tchaikovsky to score “The Nutcracker’ (Prince Coqueluche) in 1891. Although dished by critics when premiered at Christmas a year later, the ballet has gone on to become the most widely performed ballet all over the world. Th two act ballet is choreographed to a libretto adapted from Hoffmann’s story, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”.
It will always be a glorious festival for adults and children. See ww.uch.ie for booking.
