LIMERICK’s southpaw sensation, Andy Lee, wiped the smile form the face of Brian Vera in the early hours of Sunday morning when he gave a boxing display and masterclass in defeating the man that put the only blot on Castleconnell man’s copybook in style. Vera was knocked and cut during the bout and failed to deliver on a plan B to keep himself in the fight. Relentless, he came out Lee for more and more punishment but the Limerick man showed class and determination and stayed out of a brawl and boxed clever to take the win.
Lee rocked with class and style on the undercard of the Sergio Martinez main event at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and out boxed his opponent to take a well deserved win. With 27-1 on his fight record, Andy Lee now may have moved up in the pecking order to take a shot at Martinez.
Matthew Macklin is the only man that could possibly stand in his way and the boxing world is indicating rumblings of an all Irish battle on St Patrick’s Day in New York. Winner takes all and a right to take on the sitting champion in the summer of 2012.
