Weekend of Ups and Downs

-

THE final pairing is now known for the Live 95fm Senior hurling championship as Ahane overcame Emmets last weekend to set up a final meeting with Na Piarsaigh.
The two sides suffered defeats in the final in recent years, (Ahane in 2008 and Na Piarsaigh in 2009) so both will be looking for redemption on October the 2nd at the Gaelic Grounds.

Staying with hurling, this Sunday sees the final of the Nick Greene Intermediate hurling championships as Ballybrown face Effin in Pairc na NGael at 15.30. Effin will be slight favourites for this one, but Ballybrown have had a few tight games this season, so the final should not be a step too far for them.
That final is preceded at HQ by the Intermediate cup final which is down for decision at 13.45 between Mungret and Blackrock.
The final pairing in the senior football championship will be known this weekend too, barring replays, as Drom/Broadford face Newcastlewest and Fr Casey’s face the defending champions Monaleen this Saturday.
Newcastlewest and Fr Casey’s topped the group stages of the championship and have been lying in wait to see who they would face.
Fr Casey’s will face Monaleen, winners over Ballylanders last weekend at 15.00 in Kilmallock this coming Saturday.
Newcastlewest will take on Drom/Broadford, the victors over St Patricks in the quarter finals at 17.15 in Feenagh.
The highs and lows of the club scene are none more so highlighted than when you look at the relegation battles that are down for decision in the coming weeks.
This Saturday at 16.45 in Kilmallock, Bruff will take on Knockainey in the senior hurling relegation final. This two proud sides will not leave anything out on the field and fans can expect a match of high quality as both teams look to hold on to senior status.
Another date for the GAA fan’s diary is October 9th. Claughaun will take on Monagea in the Intermediate hurling championship that day. Claughaun, once a stalwart of senior hurling in Limerick will dread the thought of becoming a junior club for the first time.
For details on all GAA fixtures, see page 83 of this weeks paper.
