The Pat Scully coached side are now fourth in the table, 11 points off of first placed Shelbourne, three points off of second placed Cork City and one point off of Monaghan United in third. Shels and Monaghan both have games in hand too.
With Limerick left to face Shels and Monaghan away, things are not looking good for the Blues. However, the First Division is a tight league and all the top teams are capable of beating each other.
Speaking after the Cork City game, Pat Scully said “We played a great game against Cork City last Saturday. I taught it was a great advert for the first division and a real indication of how far we have come as a team and a club. Playing at that level and to be very unlucky with a couple of decisions that stopped us getting the three points shows our improvement. We have to keep working hard to improve and stick to our principles and we will be fine.”
Indeed, the draw against Cork was as exciting and entertaining a game as you will see. The disappointment of that loss of points was eased this week as the FAI Domestic Committee removed Sheriff Youth Club from the quarter-finals of the 2011 FAI Ford Senior Cup after ruling they played in an ineligible player in their Fourth Round tie against Shelbourne on August 26.
Limerick FC will now progress to the semi-finals. However, all parties affected by this decision have the right of appeal.
This news is, of course, welcomed by all Limerick FC fans who now see their side just 90 minutes away from a cup final at the Aviva Stadium
