In group one, current county champions Monaleen face an uphill task as they try to qualify ahead of St Patrick’s, who at this juncture, are just one point ahead of their near rivals.
Fr Casey’s are all but assured of their semi final berth. They face Monaleen this weekend, while St Patrick’s face Pallasgreen.
Just to add some spice to the mix, Adare are not out of it yet either. Should Adare win and St Patrick’s and Monaleen lose, then the West county side would be through. Exciting times indeed.
In group 2, it is even tighter. If that were possible. Newcastlewest are top of the table. They face St Senan’s this weekend and by virtue of their performances this season already, the Newcastlewest men will be favourites for a semi final spot.
One could throw a blanket over the remaining sides in the mix. Ballylanders are in second spot. They face bottom side Ballysteen. St Kieran’s, who are in third spot, take on fourth placed Dromcollogher Broadford.
With one team from each group going through to the semi finals, with two more making up the quarter finals, the pairings for the play off side of the season are almost impossible to predict.
In the Griffin Coach Hire Intermediate football championship, the groups are as tight and interesting as the senior grade.
In group 1, Croom top the pile, but will Croom on six points and three other teams on five, this group is wide open.
In Group 2, Oola and Athea share top spot on six points apiece. Gerald Griffins and Mountcollins will still feel they have a shot at the quarters too, which makes for some fantastic action this weekend.
Meanwhile on the senior hurling front. The semi final pairings for the Live 95fm sponsored championship are known. Patrickswell will face City rivals Na Piarsiagh, while Ahane, winners over champions Adare last weekend, take on Emmets in the other semi final.
