Junior soccer season returns

-

THE highly anticipated Junior Football season for 2011-2012 will commence in the coming days as all sides in their respective leagues play their opening games. In the off season, all eyes were on the Premier league clubs, with supporters watching all the squads to see who went where.  As is the norm now, their has been movement, but with clubs still having time to register their players it will be unveiled come kick off time on this Thursday to see who really did put pen to paper.

As one would expect the all conquering Pike Rovers squad, who swept the boards locally last season and of course landed the FAI Junior Cup with their Club Manager Declan Considine, will once again be installed as favourites to retain all those trophies. In their opening game Pike host Aisling and one would see this as a home banker.
Who will be their closes challengers? It could come from Ballynanty or the Boro. Newly promoted sides Summerville and Wembley will be looking for a good start in their opening games.
While in Div 1A Shannon Town and Mungret Regional will be hoping to bounce back up. However, this is always a tricky league to navigate as teams like Charleville, Geraldines and Granville will all be fighting for those two vital top spots while Pike B and Caherconlish who came up from 1B will also prove tricky.
Their is also U17 and U19 games  this weekend and these leagues are always competitive. In the U17 sector, teams like Fairview, Pike and Granville should be the front runners while in the U19 it looks like Balla, Regional and Fairview will all be pushing for honours.
In the coming weeks this scribe will hopefully give all the Limerick Post readers a weekly look at all games played locally on the Junior and Minor front. If you wish to have something covered, please email [email protected]
