INEVITABLY Limerick is first stop on the map for Irish Chamber Orchestra’s second Classical Ceol tour of 2011 taking place September 8-17. Classical Ceol and its suite of guest musicians will see the orchestra perform in Limerick, Dublin, Trim, Clifden and Sligo its mix of traditional and contemporary Irish music with classical works. “Back on the road, the ICO offers a kaleidoscopic range of styles blending the traditional with the classical to great effect,” says marketing manager Charlotte Eglinton.
“Fiddler Martin Hayes defies description. Like a modern-day Paganini, his intensity and soulfulness harnesses breathtaking technique and overflowing improvisations. With long-time musical partner, the Chicago based Dennis Cahill, they have achieved the delicate balance of tradition and creativity. Together they join the Irish Chamber Orchestra under the directorship of Katherine Hunka in performing a diverse range of works with popular appeal”.
Attend to UCH on Thursday September 8 for this opening concert of the Autumnal ICO season in Limerick, 8pm.
