The Limerick Pride festival, celebrating its tenth year, will take to city streets from September 3-11. The festival is the highlight of the LGBTQ calendar in the South West area. Included will be a mix of events ranging from theatre to awareness, entertainment to celebration. The festival will recognise and celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans-gendered and Queer identity in Limerick City.
As it has grown, so too has the support from the civic authorities, the people of Limerick and the egional LGBTQ community, for which organisers are extremely grateful.
As is traditional with Pride Festivals all over the world, the highlight in Limerick will be the annual Pride Parade.
The parade will start at 12:30pm on Saturday, September 10 from City Hall, and flows through O’Connell Street, Henry Street and ends outside Peter Clohessys.
A “Block Party” is planned along the banks of the river Shannon.
That evening Britain’s Got Talent, Nursery Rhyme singer Edward Reid, is to perform at the climax night of Limerick Pride at La Boutique in Dolans Warehouse.
Festival Chair, Billie, said: “It surely is a wondrous thing that Limerick is celebrating a decade of Pride, five years of the Pride Parade, The Ms Gay Ireland crown and civil partnership all in the same year”.
