The New Limerick Greyhound Stadium has announced another first for the greyhound racing world, with the launch of the Liberty Mutual A1 600 Sweepstake. Sponsored by international insurance group, Liberty Mutual, the 600 yards Sweepstake is worth €9,000, with €3,500 prize money going to the winner.
36 dogs will take part in the competition with the first round of heats taking place at the new Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Friday 12th August. The Quarter finals take place on Friday 19th August, while the semi finals are scheduled for Friday 26th August. The sweepstake will culminate with the final race on Friday 2nd September.
Speaking about the announcement, Imelda Cahalan Sales, Commercial & Operations Manager of the New Limerick Greyhound Stadium said “This is another positive and very welcome addition to the New Limerick Greyhound Stadium. We are delighted to welcome Liberty Mutual on board as sponsors of this competition, and it’s fantastic to see this kind of support for the greyhound racing industry.”
The New Limerick Greyhound Stadium recently hosted the largest race in the Limerick greyhound racing calendar, the Kerry Agribusiness Irish St. Leger, this was the second time the race has been run at the stadium since its opening in October 2010. Cahalan added “We have had a really busy and successful year so far at the stadium, especially with the Connolly Red Mills All Ireland Series and Kerry Agribusiness Irish St. Leger races. We are really looking forward to another exciting competition with the upcoming Liberty Mutual A1 600 Sweepstake”.
The New Limerick Greyhound Stadium offers a World Class sport and versatile entertainment venue with a capacity for over 2,000; as well as a substantial 190 seat restaurant, private hospitality suites and gallery bars, all of which are a significant attraction for people in the mid-west region.
The facility houses the new headquarters offices of the Irish Greyhound Board and hosts over 1,200 races a year as well as a myriad of other entertainment events. A family ticket to the stadium costs just €20 for two adults and four children. Children under 16 are admitted free of charge.
