Behan still seeks promotion

-

With ten games to go in the Airtricity League First Division, Limerick striker Denis Behan has his mind firmly set on promotion, whether as league champions or not.

“Ten points is a big gap”, Behan said, “but there’s 30 points in play and we’ll try to keep winning all our games. We’re not looking at any target, if it comes about that we win it, then we win it, but our aim is promotion this year and if we keep winning then who knows.” Behan grabbed his first two league goals on Friday night in a 2-0 win away to Waterford United in the RSC, and the former Hartlepool striker knows that his side must push on from the win.

“I’m delighted to get the monkey off my back and now it should given me an extra bit of confidence. It was a great ball by Rory Gaffney for the first one, just enough pace on it, and then for the second Shane Tracy just got enough over the top and that’s why I signed for Limerick, real quality players and with the boys coming in behind us too. Rory is a great signing, and Shane coming back now, he’s like a new signing.” The manner of the win was also pleasing, but a deserved win according to the Abbeyfeale striker. “Any win away from home, you don’t care how you get it, whether by hook or by crook. To be fair we had the better of the chances as the game went on, not too sure if my hat-trick goal was offside, but I’ll take the two starting off. Any win away from home is a good win.” With Rory Gaffney making his debut for the Shannonsiders, Behan was full of praise for the club for the quality signings that have been made by club.

“It’s brilliant, and with more to come in with all the boys with injuries, they’ve been so unlucky. We seem to be lucky that for everyone that goes out, we’re getting someone in. Fair play to Pat Scully and Pat O’Sullivan and the background staff, they are bringing in quality players all the time, it makes a big difference and only makes the squad stronger.”
