Irish firms warned cybercrime is viral

-

CYBERCRIME has gone viral and Irish companies and public bodies have never been more vulnerable to attack from new and sophisticated forms of hacking, according to EMC, the world’s largest data storage company that employs more than 2,500 people here.

Jason Ward, EMC’s Country Manager in Ireland, warned of the new dangers following a report published recently by the Security for Business Innovation Council (SBIC) – a group of leading security executives from some of the world’s largest corporations.
EMC, which owns RSA – a world-leader in data security – is a member of the SBIC.
The report, the latest in a series from the SBIC, examined the seismic shift in the threat landscape affecting businesses targeted for corporate espionage and sabotage.
The 16 global security leaders who authored the report say that, for most organisations, it is a matter of when, not if, they will be targeted by advanced threats.
The recent string of sophisticated cyber attacks which have affected pillars of industry and government around the world provides the backdrop for the report, When Advanced Persistent Threats Go Mainstream: Building Information-Security Strategies to Combat Escalating Threats.
