THIS weekend sees a return to club action for the hurlers of Limerick City and County as the Live 95fm Senior Hurling Championship and the Nick Greene Sports Intermediate Hurling Championships enter the final round of group games.
In group one of the senior championship, first plays second as Kilmallock take on Hospital Herbertstown on Saturday night. Garryspillane face South Liberties in the same group, with the black and amber on the same points as Hospital. It is all to play for, for all four teams, as the Liberties will not want to finish bottom and get dragged into something they will not want to be in.
Group two has the same look about it. Emmets sit atop the table and they face second placed Bruff. The ‘Well’ and Bruff are both on two points each. Granagh/Ballingarry prop up the table, but with it all to play for, the Donal O’Grady led men will not be going down that easy. Again, all to play for.
It is even tighter in Group three as Adare and Na Piarsaigh are on three points, while Croom are on two. Adare and Croom face off this weekend, while Na Piarsaigh face Bruree. Again, Bruree will not want to be facing into a relegation battle so this group like the other three will be down to the wire.
Doon look to have secured a path to the next round with four points from their first two games. They face Knockainey this weekend is what is sure to be a great game. Local rivals, Ahane and Murroe Boher will do battle for second place in the group.
In the Nick Greene Sports Intermediate hurling championship, it is as tight as ever.
Ballybrown and Newcastlewest will do battle for top spot in Group one this weekend.
In group two, there is a similar set up as Effin and Kildimo will meet to see who finishes top.
Group three is tighter as Monaleen, Glenroe and Monagea all have chances of going top.
Group four sees Dromin Athlaca in top spot one point ahed of Kileedy. The two sides meet this weekend, as Mungret still have a chance of qualifying. For all fixtures see page 65.
