“EVER since I was young, I could see ‘them,” Elaine Maher tells me shortly after we meet in the foyer of the Absolute Hotel.
The Limerick mum of two, who claims to see angels and spirits who have “passed over,” is now providing a psychic reading service from Angel Times, Thomas Street, after years of hiding her “gift”.
“I’ve been given a gift and I don’t know why. I didn’t decide to help others. The angels put me into positions to help people after helping me heal myself after I went though my own personal experience. ‘They’ gave me confidence to help others,” she explains.
Elaine’s ‘medium sessions’ focus on connecting with departed loved ones that have passed over, either in group or individual private sittings.
Her ‘angel readings’ involve her receiving messages to “bring guidance, healing and assistance in moving forward in life”.
Worried she’s going to “sound mad”, she testifies her “main job is being a mother and a wife” and, while loving her work with the angels, she “still has a fear of god” whenever she sees or communicates with them-which is “most nights”
“The angels don’t invade my space. Every spirit that comes is pure happy and engulfed in light. They’re always smiling and laughing and happy where they are,” Elaine adds.
Braving the fear of being ridiculed, Elaine took the decision to go public to help others find peace of mind about whatever burdens they may be suffering. “I’m not a fortune teller, it doesn’t interest me. I’m a normal person with human flaws. I’m not a ‘holy Joe’ either, so I don’t call spirits. The person who comes to me looking for help calls the spirit. ‘They’ can only come through the client”.
Admitting she is “just a telephone” between the person and the angel/spirit who has passed over, Elaine remarks with a smile: “My husband couldn’t understand it for a while but he’s now my biggest supporter.
“Through love, dead spirits remain with us. They are physically gone, but it’s like their mind stays with us. They are helping us. Their message is don’t give up no matter how bad you think things seem. We are our own life’s authors. We write our own destiny,” she concluded.
