JUST as the summer continues for the Limerick hurlers, the county’s footballers are not to be outdone.
Maurice Horan’s side are fixed to play Wexford this Saturday night in Portlaoise with a 7pm throw in.
The round four qualifier tie comes after Limerick defeated Waterford last Saturday at the Gaelic Grounds.
As with the hurlers, the footballers have been playing this season with something to prove. The first round of the Munster championship ended in a heavy defeat to Kerry. Since then, the injury depleted side has been on a march. Who knows where this “Summer of 2011” odyssey is going to end?
Limerick’s opponents on Saturday night, Wexford, come into the qualifers after losing to Dublin by three points in the Leinster final.
The ‘Yellow Bellies’ could very well be Leinster title holders all be it for a mistake from their goalkeeper, gifted Dublin the title.
Limerick will not fear Wexford this weekend. There were worse draws on paper and Wexford will be fearing a momentum driven Limerick side.
Limerick have now beaten Offaly and Waterford to get to this point. People may not see those scalps as massive on their own right, but when you consider Limerick are a team depleted of stars, this journey is all the more impressive. Can Limerick go one more step towards ‘Sam’? Yes.
