Drove at speed and on wrong side of road
A MAN who pleaded guilty to “recklessly” driving a car at speed on the wrong side of the road in the Garryowen area of the city, told Limerick District Court that he was in pursuit of a car that allegedly ran down and seriously injured his partner earlier that day.
25-year-old Thomas Moore, with an address at 8 Cornmarket Square, Little Catherine Street, was arrested by gardai after a pursuit in which he was apprehended driving on the wrong side of the road alongside another car he was chasing.
Gardai said that on February 3 last, at 2.50pm, both cars were travelling side by side on the Blackfriar Road, near Mulgrave Street, and the car driven by Moore was on the wrong side of the road.
Solicitor Darrach McCarthy, told the court that Moore said he told gardai that the car he was in pursuit of was involved in an alleged road traffic incident, where his partner was seriously injured.
He advised the court that this incident was part of matter under investigation by gardai.
The solicitor added that Moore was “considerably upset at the incident that occurred earlier in the day”.
Judge Eamon O’Brien heard that Moore is currently serving a one- year prison sentence handed down by the Circuit Court in May of this year, before commenting on the “extraordinary behaviour” of the accused.
Moore was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison and banned from driving for two years and one day. The sentence is to be served concurrently.
