“I am delighted to take over as head coach of UL Bohemians. They are a great club with a great tradition and I am looking forward to working with a very talented group of players. The club is a great fit for me. I wanted to get back into coaching as soon as I could and there is no better place to do that than with this great club. The club’s ambition is to get back into the top tier of Irish club rugby and I hope to achieve that” commented Colm Tucker, the former head coach of Shannon RFC and son of ex international and British and Irish Lion, Colm Tucker Snr.
“Colm is an ideal candidate for us” added director of rugby Barry Murphy. “Colm has great experience at all levels of rugby, from under age right through to winning the AIL with Shannon as a player and a coach. The Tucker name is steeped in Limerick rugby tradition and hopefully Colm can add another chapter to that story with UL Bohemians”
Tucker and Murphy will be joined on the coaching ticket by Gary Flanagan as forwards coach. Flanagan had been with the senior team last season when the club just missed out on promotion to Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League.
Barry Murphy takes on a new role this season. The former Munster star takes over from Ian Costello as director of rugby. Costello has moved on to the Munster set up to take over the Musnter ‘A’ side.
Speaking about his new role, Murphy was in positive mood.
“I am looking forward to working with the talented players that UL Bohemians possess at all levels. We have some great people at the club and I hope that I can make the club stronger in my time as director of rugby”
Murphy feels that his background in professional rugby will be of benefit to his new charges.
“When you train every day for years, you are bound to pick up something. I have come through the UL Bohemians academy myself and then I came through the Munster set up, so I know what getting through the system is all about. Hopefully what I have learned I can impart onto the younger players” The future looks bright for the Annacotty based.
With Tucker and Murphy at the helm, the Robin might just be bop, bop, bopping along soon.
